Leave It Better Than You Found It! — Replace Yourself!
Yes, the end of your officer term may be fast approaching. As a leadership speaker and trainer, one of the primary goals I share with leadership teams I train is — Leave It Better Than You Found It! What does that mean? You’re elected to serve and support.
Replace Yourself. Find at least two people to succeed you.
Stellar officers are those who live an attitude of — It’s never about me. It’s always about others. Their leadership role is to continue to develop the membership and strengthen the legacy of the organization.
If you haven’t made this a priority, you still have some time. Quickly think of all the people you’ve met. Write them down. Now who has the passion to serve? Who should you encourage? Who would become a good officer? Write these names down. Email them. Send them a personal note. Call them. They may be extremely involved or just starting to show interest in the organization, your outreach might make all the difference.
Selfish benefit — You’ll be amazed how good it feels to intentionally reach out and encourage others. And even if they don’t run for office you’ve made them feel greater ownership in the organization. They might take on a bigger role with this greater confidence.
So go replace yourself. Be a stellar officer!
